| Howard Hunter, Sr. - Past
Rodeo Great Howard Hunter, Sr. "Wild Horse Rider" qualified in the Saddle Bronc Riding at three National Finals Rodeos in 1976, '79,'80. He was Badlands Circuit Champion Bronc Rider five times. He rode at 14 INFR Rodeo Finals and was Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association Bronc Riding Champion 10 times. Howard is the only individual ever to win the Team Trophy at the SD State High School Finals. |
| Lori Whiting - Rodeo
Cowgirl Great Lori is one of only three women from SD to ear a berth to the NFR. Lori was 10th in the World in the Barrel Racing at the 1984 NFR. She was the Badlands Circuit Champion Barrel Racer for six years. A WPRA Gold Card holder, Lori maintained a standing in the top 20 for four consecutive years. |
| Arlen Hulm - Rodeo Cowboy
Great Arlen has excelled in rodeo at the SDRA, NRCA, and professional levels. Three-time SDRA Calf Roping Champion in 1969, '77, and '80. He was runner-up Calf Roping Champion four other years. Arlen was Old Mans Breakaway Champion for 1992 through 1997. He was an All Around contender, Badlands Circuit Champion and Team Penning Champion as well. |
| Martin Bonnichsen - Rodeo
Promoter Martin has been a lifetime supporter of rodeo in Central SD. As a rodeo announcer he has devoted thousands of hours over the years to High School, 4-H, and other rodeo and horse events. An avid volunteer in his community, he has organized many an event to upgrade rodeo and horse facilities for youth. A true community supporter, Martin continues to announce, promote, and enjoy the sport of rodeo. |
| The Knippling Brothers
(Lambert & Joe) - Ranch Cowboy Family Lambert & Joe moved with their family to Buffalo County, SD in 1909, at the ages of 11 and 9 respectively. While still teenagers, they put up an extremely large amount of hay thereby financing cattle purchases and turning their father's farming operation into a cattle operation. The Knippling Brothers Ranch became one of the largest and best ranches in the state of South Dakota. They were instrumental in controlling anthrax in SD and were leaders in other phases of the cattle and horse industry. Lambert and Alice had nine children: Robert, Francis, John, Howard, Joe, Helen Peterson, Kathryn VanBalen, Margaret Schnell, and Carol Marsh. Joe and Eleanor had six children: Donald, Jerald, Clayton, Genevieve Rank, Joyce Lawver, and Mary Jo Joens. |
