Casey Tibbs revolving statue sept 2017Iconic Statue Returns to Fort Pierre!

The iconic Casey Tibbs revolving statue returned home in September 2017. A new base was created with spinning mechanisms to created South Dakota's famous original "weather vane." The fiberglass statue had several cracks in it and it needed to be repaired. The entire statue was repainted and fit with leather pieces. And yes, Casey is wearing real denim jeans!

We will be placing historical panels on the base with sponsorships. Interested parties can contact Cindy Bahe at 605-494-1094.

"Floating Horses" Debut
Thanks to everone who attended "Floating Horses - The Life of Casey Tibbs" debut mid-September in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area. More than 1,000 people attended the showings and the film got great reviews. We may have another showing in the winter of 2018.

The 2017 Match of Champions was held in June. This year Wade Sundell of Box Holm, Iowa scored 91 points on Luna Tic From Hell, owned by Burch Rodeo to win the Match of Champions. In addition to the prize money and a Casey Tibbs Tornado bronze, Sundell also won the Bicentennial saddle, crafted by Fort Pierre’s Dave Dahl. As an added entertainment feature, this year the Match included a pony ride that was won by contestant Isaac Assman of Isabel.

Three other individuals were also honored at this year’s bronc ride: Honorary Secretary/Timer was Ann Wilson Frederick, originally of the Rosebud Indian Reservation, Honorary Chute Boss was Pierre native Roderick Hall and Honorary Arena Director was Dick Jones of Fort Pierre.

We had a record number of visitors at the museum that day. This year The Match of Champions drew riders and attendees from across our state as well as those from Texas, Wyoming, Iowa, North Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas and many of those visit the museum.

The 25th  Match of Champions will be held next year the first Saturday of June.
